{"id":24,"date":"2012-10-17T11:40:49","date_gmt":"2012-10-17T09:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.apsic.com\/blog\/?p=24"},"modified":"2012-10-17T11:40:49","modified_gmt":"2012-10-17T09:40:49","slug":"pronouncing-xbench","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.apsic.com\/blog\/?p=24","title":{"rendered":"Pronouncing Xbench"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few of you have asked us how we pronounce &#8220;Xbench&#8221; at ApSIC, because users seem to pronounce it in very different ways.<\/p>\n<p>Well, we&#8217;ve just done an internal poll at ApSIC on Xbench phonetics and discovered that Xbench pronunciation actually depends on language and location:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When we speak English, we say [\u025bks]-bench.<\/li>\n<li>When we speak Catalan or Spanish at ApSIC, we normally say [\u026aks]-bench, because &#8220;ics&#8221; is the name of the letter X in Catalan.<\/li>\n<li>When we speak Spanish outside of ApSIC, we normally say [\u025bk\u026as]-bench, because &#8220;equis&#8221; is the name of the letter X in Spanish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, although the X in Xbench has its origins in the transformation translate->Xlate, we never pronounced it as &#8220;trans-bench&#8221;.  Also, we never pronounced it as &#8220;cross-bench&#8221;, although it seems a very common pronunciation in English-speaking countries.<\/p>\n<p>That said, you are welcome to continue to pronounce it how you prefer.
